Owu-Ikosi has safe water

Our second water point, a solar-powered borehole for more than 3,000 people, has been handed over to the community of Owu-Ikosi.

Our second water point is open. The community of Owu-Ikosi, in the Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, now has a solar-powered borehole expected to serve more than 3,000 people.

Power supply in the area is unreliable, so the borehole runs on solar power to keep water flowing. The Olowu of Owu-Ikosi has appointed two chiefs to oversee its maintenance.

Community leaders joined the inauguration, including the Olowu of Owu-Ikosi, the Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu, home of our first water point, and the Iyaloja of Kajola, who spoke for the town’s women. Our founder, Prince Akeem Adenuga, joined from the UK.

Thank you to everyone whose gifts made it possible. Next, we are raising funds for water points in four more communities: Agbowa, Ikosi, Epe and Ikorodu.

Read The Guardian’s report on the opening.
