Only recently, Merry-Gold Water Charity completed a borehole water fetching point facility for the Odo-Ayandelu rural community in Lagos State, Nigeria. This project is currently meeting the immediate water needs of about 2,000 inhabitants who, hitherto, depended on unsafe water, which they sourced from far-flung streams. Funding for this project came from free will donations from kind-hearted individuals and organizations. Currently, we have our eyes set on a massive water project that will service the localities of Agbowa/ Ikosi/ Epe/ Ikorodu areas in Lagos State. These communities have suffered perennial water scarcity and are therefore highly susceptible to a wide range of health hazards. This latter project, which has a projected total cost of N25,220,000 (£45,676 65), will involve the procurement of the following in each of the four localities:
- Borehole
- Treatment plant
- Aeration tank
- Solar panels (6x)
- Power generator house
- 5 kva generator
- Fetching points (6×)
- Tank stand
- Fencing
- Security house
- Landscaping
- Labour
- Project Management
- Government/Local Authority Permits
These projects will have a massive impact in alleviating the water crisis that has plagued the target communities for decades and engender the type of attitudinal change that will foster better health outcomes. Carefully selected stakeholders - from the most basic civil works to security oversight, will implement them.
