Before
Power supply in the area is unreliable, so a borehole needed its own source of energy to keep water flowing.
Now
A solar-powered borehole now serves more than 3,000 people, with two chiefs appointed to look after it.
Owu-Ikosi is a town in the Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. In 2025 Merry-Gold Water Charity handed over a new borehole to the community: our second water point in three years.
Because power supply in the area is unreliable, the borehole runs on solar power. It is expected to serve more than 3,000 people.
The inauguration brought together community leaders including the Olowu of Owu-Ikosi, the Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu, the Iyaloja of Kajola speaking for the town’s women, and a representative of the Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Executive Chairman. Our founder, Prince Akeem Adenuga, joined from the UK. The Olowu appointed two chiefs to oversee the maintenance of the facility.
The Guardian (Nigeria) reported on the opening on 6 April 2025.
